Valkky produkt family well received at Intertraffic2012

Valkky product family has generated a big interested at the Intertraffic 2012 fair in Amsterdam. Already during the first day th Valkky Counter product registred 2247 people passing by the stand and towards the end of day 2 the number is getting close to 3000. Specially the illuminated crosswalk sign - Valkky Sign - has generated a lot of interest with its recently launched 220V version.

Havainne Oy has 19.03.2012 installed the first Valkky capsules in Poland on two crosswalks in the city of Chorzow. Chorzow city was from the first meeting very eager about Valkky and the benefits it brings.

After the installation Chorzow city held together with Havainne Oy a press conference for the Polish media, other Polish cities and the traffic police.

New Smart Traffic solution, Välkky Sign, announced

Havainne Oy, a Finnish company specializing in safety of pedestrians,cyclists, and other light traffic, has today announced a new product designed to add safety and visibility on crosswalks and light traffic
routes.

Välkky Sign is a crosswalk traffic sign that highlights approaching people in dark and poor visibility conditions. Equipped with motion detector and a light condition sensor, Välkky Sign is a unique product in the market today. When pedestrian is about to cross the street, the
traffic sign itself starts illuminating from within, providing a natural and effective way to provide additional reaction time to drivers approaching the crosswalk.

Välkky Sign is battery powered and easily installed, replacing old crosswalk signs.

First Välkky sensor capsules have been delivered to Austria and Estonia this week. Havainne Oy has agreed the delivery with it's local partners Gesig GmbH ja AS Signaal. These deliveries shows that there is an increased need for cost efficient cross walk traffic safety solutions in other parts of Europe. In addition to these deliveries, activities are ongoing to start deliveries to other European markets

Havainne participates in IBM100-year exhibition

The intelligent traffic indicator Välkky will be presented at IBM's 100-years exhibition in Finland during 25.5 - 10.06.2011. The exhibition is a summary of history, present and future. Today's technology allows with small investments significant improvements in traffic safety. In Finland, nearly 50% of all traffic accidents for pedestrians and cyclists happen on cross walks. We can today quickly and cost-effectively improve traffic safety by investing in smart proven technologies.

More Välkkys to the European Capital of Culture

Välkky has a positive impact

SITO (www.sito.com) has completed the first part of a study to determine the impact of installed Välkky products on drivers behaviour. After installing Välkky's in average 10% more drivers slow down when a pedestrian is crossing a crosswalk and in some cases up to 15% of the drivers slow down. The study was done at four crosswalks in Espoo during October-November. This study complements the earlier study (by Destia) that indicates that the average speed at a crosswalk with Välkky drops with 5%

As part of Helsinki crosswalk trial, Havainne Oy has installed Välkky traffic indicators on 3 cross walks at Koskelantie. Välkky is an active traffic indicator which makes drivers reduce their speed. With this technology the safety on cross walks can be significantly improved.

Even if cross-walk is the safest spot to cross the street, 45% of pedestrian accidents happen on the cross-walk. There are about 60 annual pedestrian accidents on the cross-walk in Finland (Source: Liikenneturva statistics 2009).

Välkky is an active and intelligent product, which lowers driving speeds. It is installed on traffic signs on both sides of the street. When a pedestrian or bicyclist enters the motion detection area , Välkky starts blinking blue and white light towards the oncoming traffic. This will raise the attention level of the driver and cause him to lower the speed.

Välkky can increase the safety in other areas like bus stops, pedestrian tunnels and pedestrian crossings.

According to Destia study, Välkky lowers the speed on average 4-5%, which lowers the accident rate. 5% lower speed reduces fatal accidents by 20% (Andersson & Nillsson 1997).
